WUSC is honoured to announce that Dr. Neil Turok will give the keynote address at the 64th Annual General Assembly.

With this year’s theme of Owning the MDGs: Canadians Rising to the Challenge, Dr. Turok will bring a fresh and insightful prespective to how we as Canadians can aid in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

Born in South Africa, Dr. Turok created NextEinstein, a program that provides the opportunity for Africans to develop as independent, creative problem solvers and teachers. He also founded the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), which opened in 2003. Based in Cape Town, this postgraduate educational centre supports the development of mathematics and science across Africa.

Dr. Neil Turok earned his PhD at Imperial College. After pursuing postdoctoral studies in Santa Barbara, he was appointed Associate Scientist at Fermilab. He then moved to Princeton where he became Professor of Physics in 1994.

Currently, Dr. Turok is the Director of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. For this work and his contributions to theoretical physics, Dr. Turok was recently awarded a prestigious TED Prize (www.ted.com) and a “Most Innovative People” award at the 2008 World Summit on Innovation and Entrepreneurship (WSIE).

Dr. Neil Turok will be speaking Saturday, November 6th, 2010 during the Annual General Assembly keynote luncheon.
