In refugee camps, very few girls have the opportunity to pursue their education beyond primary school. Without education, they have limited opportunities for their future. These young girls are expected to help with domestic chores and the care of siblings, too often missing school or stopping their studies altogether. Girls must also overcome attitudinal and cultural barriers to get and complete their primary and secondary education, and develop the self-confidence to pursue higher studies.
WUSC strives to reduce this gender imbalance by:
- increasing girls’ access to quality primary and secondary education in refugee camps in Kenya.
Donate to WUSC’s Shine A Light campaign and help give girls living in refugee camps a better future through education!
