Stand Up 2009

For the fourth straight year, WUSC will join millions of people around the world in the global campaign to ‘Stand Up. Take Action. End Poverty Now.'

Last year, more than 116 million Stood Up and Took Action to end poverty by supporting the Millennium Development Goals. This massive action broke the Guinness Book of World Records for largest mobilization, attracting the participation of nearly 2% of the world's population. This year, 22 WUSC Local Committees will Stand Up across the country, from Memorial University in St. John's, Newfoundland to University of Alberta in Edmonton.

Let's break the record again this year and send a louder message than ever - achieve the Millennium Development Goals!

With just six years left until the 2015 deadline, now is the time to ensure that meeting the targets for the Millennium Development Goals remains at the top of political and public agendas worldwide. In this environment, Stand Up is a vital opportunity to send a clear and urgent message to world leaders and decision makers and raise the political stakes.

Join WUSC and the growing movement: raise awareness and encourage governments and individuals to take action to end extreme poverty now. To find out how to participate, visit the Stand Up website (http://standupagainstpoverty.org/) and browse actions in your area or add your own.

Take part. Take action. Stand Up this October 16th, 17th or 18th
